A Planning Day

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

Yesterday was fun.  Getting feedback on Facebook from interested friends and family was encouraging and we have been given some excellent advice already and we look forward to more. Thanks to everyone who responded to my Facebook post and to those who “followed” our blog.

The big event of the day was booking one way tickets to Quito, Ecuador!  The events leading up to that were a bit odd, but sort of usual for us.  We are rather spontaneous travelers and some people may snort out their noses at the understatement of that phrase. Let’s just tactfully say we like to leave our options open for what adventures might lie ahead.

Up until about 10:30 am our Plan A was to head south to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in our trusty Yukon, stopping at various interesting points along the way and then either continuing the drive to Yucatan or flying to Costa Rica.  Late Tuesday night Ky got wind of a fuel issue that is creating havoc in many Mexican states.  For those of us old enough to remember the fuel shortages of 1973 in the U.S. – we can feel their pain.

We’re really not ones to be adverse to little challenges, but after researching the severity of the fuel problem, we reminded ourselves that there are lots of places where we want to travel. We started brainstorming other ideas.  By noon we had our tickets to Quito booked.  A bit more on our process for finding our tickets in tomorrow’s blog.

After all that extensive and time consuming planning 😉 we had to take a break and head out to the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area in the Coronado National Forest – one of our very favorite places in Tucson, actually one of our very favorite places in the U.S., for a good hike.  Hope you enjoy some of our photos.  It may surprise some of you to know that yes, there is actually some water in the dessert.
