Cotton Eye Joe

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

Where have you been to and where would you go? Sounds a bit like a line from "Cotton Eye Joe - Where did you come from and where did you go?" If you're a country western fan and ever danced at a western club, the tune comes to mind and gets stuck there. As a southern girl going to school at Texas A&M, I danced it many times and now I won't be able to shake that song for at least the rest of the day.

It requires audience participation to be fun and coordination to keep from messing up other dancers since everyone is in lines like spokes around a wheel, and all moving forward and backward together.

We have become accustomed to deciding where we'll be sleeping that night as late as the afternoon before that very night. We have never had this many travel plans this far out in our lives, but we have a rough idea of where we're going through early September - crazy right?!! This year we're doing lots of the backwards part of the dance it seems. We have been and will be returning to many of the same places to which we've already traveled. January we were back in Los Barriles Mexico for a month, February in Tucson, March for three weeks in Prescott and a week in Scottsdale, AZ.

For the forward steps of the dance, the next two whirlwind weeks we'll be shuffling and stepping to lots of one and two nights here and there in Tucson, Chicago, Tucson again, Chandler, AZ, Guaymas San Carlos, MX for a night or two and then one or two more stops on our way down to a month and a half house sit in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico! Whew!

We stopped and visited with Ky's cousin Ken at his RV boondocking site at the Boulders OHV site in Peoria west of Lake Pleasant on our way to Scottsdale. He whipped me at cribbage - TWO skunks, so I went outside to play with my drone to get over it! Here was the result:

In Prescott, I pulled a calf muscle playing pickleball (Boo Hoo!) and finally at three and a half weeks, I'm walking normally, and I'm dutifully fighting the urge to play full out again and must continue that for almost another month. Ky and I have been to the courts a couple of times though so I can hit balls that he has to return right at me. Makes me feel like a much better player when he's hitting them to me instead of where I'm not! LOL! Keeps me sane to be active again, if a little frustrated not to be able to run for some of them down though when he "accidentally" misses me.

It has been great to see some of our good friends in the Phoenix area. As always there are many more we wish we could see, but it will have to be on our next visit.

Right now we're pet sitting for two adorably sweet black labs. They are so chill and funny and we're enjoying them immensely.

I'm sitting here watching Rogue, the younger, but less fit (which is a nice way of saying very chubby) of the two dogs plopped and sleeping peacefully on the floor near me.

All this thinking about dancing, pickleball and traveling is making me a bit tired. Maybe I'll join him ;-)

Hugs from Scottsdale, AZ!
