In Touch

Updated: Nov 21, 2020

While traveling, it’s not all fun and games. But some of it is fun and games.  Take pickleball for example. It’s fun and it’s a game.  This morning we found our way to a local group that plays pickleball four times a week. Little known fact about our history is that we once owned a house in Issaquah, Washington that had a pickleball court in the backyard.  When we bought it, we had never even heard of the game before.   We used that court quite a lot.  Not that you would’ve known that today though by watching us play!  However, it was a lot of fun and it is great exercise.  We also met a nice group of international folks. Most came from the US and Canada, but Australia and France were also represented. I think will be going back – we need the practice  😉

Things like finding a place to get your clothes washed and finding a place to live while not fun and games, can still be quite interesting.  We like this area and we may settle down here for at least a little while. We looked at several places,  but haven’t found THE one yet. We’ll know it when we see it.

The highlight of my day though was getting to  be with my bookclub friends via Skype. The hardest part about traveling is missing family and friends.  Before the Internet and unlimited phone service, even to Mexico and Canada, it was so difficult to stay in touch. Now  we are in contact with our kids as often and maybe even more, as if we were still at home.

This was actually the first time I have tried participating with the book club since we started traveling about 20 months ago. It was really great seeing my friends and catching up with how things are going with all of them and their families.  It doesn’t seem like it’s been that long since I’m able to keep up a bit with them on Facebook.  Skype isn’t perfect,  it’s a bit blurry, and the lag time create some issues, but it’s better tha not being together at all.  Well, except that for the part where I couldn’t eat the mint brownies with them! I also miss real hugs.

But for now, virtual hugs!
